Just to keep the French happy, the designation of Champagne is reserved only for those wines produced in the French region of Champagne France only. Although many people still refer to Champagne whenever the wine is sparkling this is not accurate. The Italians call their sparkling wine Prosecco, the Spaniards Cava, and the US wine makers Sparkling.
