There’s an old saying, “Eat, drink, and be merry.” Well, I can think of no better place to abide by this mantra than Barcelona’s famous market, La Boqueria.
All over Barcelona the food is excellent. Everywhere you turn countless tapas bars and restaurants can be found. I ate so many great meals in Barcelona but one that really stands out is the lunch I had at El Quim De La Boqueria.
El Quim is inside the market, located right on La Rambla and serves up a wide variety of menu items as well as beers and cava. Get there early because when they sell out they close for the day. Seating is very limited and they do not accept reservations. The meals are very reasonably priced and are of the highest quality. Every ingredient is only a few steps away for the chefs to find.
The staff really make the tiny space electric. Dishes come out from behind the counter at a rapid pace, each looking more delicious than the last. Everyone walking by is envious glancing at the meals the patrons are devouring with delight.
One this afternoon I had the house special, two fried eggs and baby squid served in a skillet. Delicious!
Inside La Boqueria the food is king. So much to choose from and so many wonderful culinary experiences to be had. The market is very busy but once you do find an open seat at El Quim everything becomes about their food. What a great way to spend an afternoon and what a great meal.

This meal was absolutely delicious! I ate it with a nice glass of cold Spanish cava.
When I got finished eating this dish I wanted to order another! That is how excellent this food was prepared. The fried eggs with the baby squid pair wonderfully. Who knew?
