Caneel Bay – St John – US Virgin Islands

Caneel Bay – St John – US Virgin Islands
Caneel Bay as seen from the scenic overlook. This beautiful bay is home to the famous Caneel Bay Resort. Located in the Virgin Islands National Park this resort was originally owned by Laurence Rockefeller. The site for the resort was chosen for obvious reasons. The calm Caribbean waters of the bay, the relatively flat grounds, and it’s proximity to Cruz Bay made this a fantastic site to build the resort. Many people shy away from visiting this bay if they are not staying as guests of the resort but visitors are welcome to come and enjoy the bay. A $20 parking fee was established to enter but you can eat or drink at the resort and turn in your receipts to have the parking fee waived.

Located on the grounds of the resort are the ruins of the old sugar plantations. These ruins add to the charm of the resort and offer great picture opportunities.

On many evenings I love to grab a drink and celebrate the sunsets from the Caneel Bay dock. In the distance is the island of St Thomas.

The upper viewing deck of the resort is a great place to eat lunch or enjoy a cold beverage. Some of the locals can always be seen lounging on the grass.

I love to visit Caneel Bay. Great scenery, restaurants, and bars await you at the resort. The bay has very nice snorkeling with plenty of beautiful fish and other sea creatures. Don’t want to get wet? There’s still plenty of sea life that can be seen from the dock.
