The Muir Woods – California
12 miles north of San Francisco is the beautiful Muir Woods. Part of the Golden Gate Recreational Area the Muir Woods is home to the giant coastal redwoods.

These redwood trees grow to 300 feet tall and are as old as 800 years. It’s a beautiful spot to visit and take in all of this nature. The park is run by the Park Service and there is an entrance fee.

The rings of a tree denote the age of the tree. This slice of redwood is marked at intervals in history going back to 800 AD. It also shows evidence of fires that occurred during the centuries.
