The Lincoln Memorial – Washington DC

On the west end of The National Mall stands the memorial to the nation’s 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. The Memorial is a magnificent structure, and upon my first visit made me feel so overwhelmed with pride.
Built at a cost of $3 million dollars the Memorial was dedicated in 1922, 57 years after Lincoln’s death.
The leading American sculptor of the time, Daniel French created the 19 foot statue of Lincoln. Here you really get an idea of the scale of Lincoln’s likeness.

As an American I take great pride in these monuments dedicated to our heroes. I wish we would honor every President with a larger than life statue along the National Mall.
The Gettysburg Address delivered by President Lincoln in 1863, four months after the end of the Civil War. One of the most important speeches in American history Lincoln reiterated the principles of equality espoused in the Declaration of Independence.
Located below the Memorial is a small gift shop and artifacts illustrating the construction of the Memorial.
The Memorial is designed in the classic Greek style.
