Siena Italy

The Tuscan city of Siena is widely known for it’s large Piazza del Campo, home of the famous horse race Palio di Siena. This race takes place twice a year, July and August, and has been run since medieval times. The event draws huge crowds that gather to watch the racers from the neighborhoods of Siena compete while adorned in the traditional colors of their factions.
Siena also boasts a beautiful cathedral that is easily recognized by it’s striped bands of colored marble. The Siena Cathedral, Duomo di Siena, was completed in 1263. Famous Italian artists and sculptors, such as Bernini, worked on this magnificent structure that exemplified the power and wealth of Siena during it’s prime.
Siena resides in the heart of Tuscany about an hour and a half south of Florence and can be reached by trains and by car. The city center is filled with restaurants, shops, and businesses. It is a thriving city and a popular tourist destination. When visiting Siena give yourself several hours to wander, shop, eat, and explore all of the sights Siena has to offer.
